DISASTER RELIEF

Disaster Response Training is offered throughout the year in a number of locations.
Each class participant will receive an UMCOR ID badge* upon completion of training.

The Basic ERT class fee of $40 is paid at classtime and covers the training, background check, UMCOR ID badge, and lunch.

Basic Training Sessions will be scheduled throughout the year in district/regional locations.

Next recertification class (must have a badge expiring in 2013):

TBA. Recertification classes cost $35/person and last three hours. Lunch is not available.

 

Pre-registration is required and the following 4 items must be included in the email sent to Ron Lewis at ronblewis@gmail.com.
Be sure to include:

  1. Participants name and email
  2. Church represented
  3. Date and location of the class
  4. If you are registering for several people from your church, these items are needed for EACH participant.
Please note:
If the participants do not have email, then a phone number, complete with area code, should be included. Should class reminders or changes in case of inclement weather need to be made, this contact information will be used.Applicable to all courses:
Only the first 35 participants can be accepted for EACH class, so please pre-register as soon as you know you can attend the training,The fee ($40/person for Basic ERT; $35/person for recertification) is paid at classtime and covers the training, background check, UMCOR ID badge. Basic ERT classes include lunch. Recertification classes do not. If the class nearest you is full, you may attend any of the others.

*Official certification by a recognized volunteer relief organization (such as UMCOR) is required by FEMA for all people who are going into impacted areas. Many persons want to help with disaster relief, but do not have current UMCOR certification as ERT (Emergency Response Trainers).

How long are the trips?

10 to 14 days.

What skills do I need?

Construction skills are desired, but not required. Enter your skills and country preferences on the application. The Building Teams Committee will use this information during the selection process in October.

How do I get an application?

Do I have to be a member of a United Methodist Church?

No. Invite your friends, colleagues, family and neighbors, too.

Can I talk with people who have participated?

Yes! Feel free to contact a country coordinator (see 2014 project information) and/or come to the 2014 Reunion/Rally.

When is/was the Reunion/Rally?

Christ Boulevard UMC in Statesville, Saturday, Sept. 27, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., including worship. Cost is $25 at the door and includes lunch. Contact Mary Doub, at mldoub@earthlink.net, to register.

When can I sign up?

Registration begins in late summer, continues until teams are full (12-15 members) or 90 days prior to departure. Please apply as soon as possible, as many teams fill fast.

What does it cost?

It varies from country to country. Team members donate the cost of travel and meals, as well as their time (see the project information).

Is training available?

Participation in team-specific orientation is required. Team Leader Training is available during the year. To learn more and indicate your interest, contact Keys Pendleton, 704.974.3403 or kspbbd@yahoo.com.

Building Team Insurance
